AIS Awards

The Association for Information Systems grants a selection of prestigious awards each year to deserving members, educators, and leaders in the field of information systems. The AIS awards reward outstanding scientific achievement, service, and contributions across all aspects of the field. The AIS Fellow Award honors individuals who have made excellent research, teaching, and service contributions to information systems, both on the local and global level.

The AIS Leadership Excellence Award is presented annually at ICIS to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and innovation in the use and development of information systems.

The AIS Sandra Slaughter Service Award recognizes longstanding members who have provided leadership within the Association, particularly through such activities as participating in the SIGs/chapters/colleges, strengthening the conferences, and participating in AIS-sponsored journals.

The AIS Early Career Award recognizes individuals in the early stages of their careers who have already made outstanding research, teaching, and/or service contributions to the field of information systems.

The AIS Mid-Career Award recognizes individuals in the middle stages of their careers who have already made outstanding research, teaching, and/or service contributions to the field of information systems.

The AIS Jessica Pye Doctoral Student Service Award, established by AIS Council in 2014, recognizes volunteer contributions made by doctoral students toward the success of AIS conferences, journals, and programs.

The Best Publications Awards were established to recognize the breadth of high quality work being published within the information systems discipline. Awarded to up to five papers, this award simultaneously recognizes the authors of each paper as well as the journals in which they are published.

The AIS Impact Award recognizes information systems research with widespread impact on practice in business and society. Impactful research can be a powerful individual motivator. Seeing that one’s own research delivers societal value and helps business succeed is rewarding in its own right. Within and beyond our own community, multiple initiatives seek to encourage us to pursue research with societal value.

The AIS Leadership Team Recognition Award is special recognition for an elected council member’s dedication to the mission of the association.

AIS gives three different annual Technology Awards to deserving members of the information systems community.

The AIS Education Awards are bestowed upon those who have published excellent papers that focus on information systems education at an AIS-sponsored or affiliate conference.

The AIS Outreach Practice Publication Award was created to recognize practice-based publications that have made a great impact by transferring research findings successfully to practitioner audiences.

The Ting Peng Liang PACIS Young Scholar Award was established in 2021 in memory of Professor Ting Peng Liang who founded PACIS and PAJAIS, served AIS President, and received AIS Fellow and LEO Award. This award recognizes the outstanding young scholar who contributed a best paper at PACIS each year.

Beginning in 1995, the ACM SIGMIS Doctoral Dissertation Award has been awarded annually to at least one outstanding MIS dissertation. A separate call for nominations is forwarded each year through ICIS. The award is announced and dispensed each year at ICIS. Judges include the faculty who participated at the prior ICIS doctoral consortium and other faculty members from the discipline who would be appropriate given the content of the submissions.

Established by the AIS Council in 2006, the AIS Distinguished Member Memorial Award is intended to honor members of the information systems community who have passed away before they could be considered for the AIS LEO or Fellow Awards.

The AMCIS Outstanding Conference Service Leadership Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the form of service leadership to AMCIS.

The ICIS Outstanding Committee Member Service Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the form of service leadership to ICIS.

Established in 2019, the AIS Distinguished Member program recognizes members who have made a significant impact on the association.
