Senior Scholars Journal Review Quality Survey

2025

Summary

The 2025 survey asked authors to assess the quality and timeliness of reviews they had received in 2023 and 2024 from the AIS Senior Scholars’ List of Premier Journals (excluding desk rejects). We received 279 valid responses. ISR received the most (161 responses), MISQ a second (142 responses), and I&O received the lowest number (30).

The first analysis is a 2×2 graph of Review Timeliness by Review Quality (3 items, quality, fairness, helpfulness), both of which were measured on 7-point scales with 4=Neutral. ISJ takes the top spot in review timeliness, while JSIS scores best in review quality. The mean review timeliness (5.15) is higher than the result in the previous survey (4.97), while review quality (5.28) also sees an increase from the previous result (4.89).

The second analysis is the extent to which the journal Publishes Interesting Research, measured by two items (interesting, and fit with respondent’s research).

The last analysis is the Net Promoter Score, which is a measure of loyalty to the journal. It asks respondents whether they would recommend the journal, using a 0-10 scale. Those responding 9 or 10 are “Promoters”, while those responding 0-6 are “Detractors”. The Net Promoter Score is the percent of Promoters minus the percent of Detractors, and thus is on a scale of -100 to +100. It is often seen as a leading indicator of future ratings. As was the case in the past three surveys, MISQ remains in the top spot.
