Claudia Loebbecke

Claudia Loebbecke was the 11th president of AIS. Since 2000 she has been the chair of Business, Media and Technology Management and the director of the Department of Media and Technology Management at the University of Cologne. From 1998 to 2000, she was the KRAK Chair of Electronic Commerce at the Copenhagen Business School, Denmark.

Prof. Loebbecke’s term as president was a stable time for AIS. Therefore, during her tenure a number of operational details could be examined and improved and several initiatives undertaken. Among them were:

• AIS Chapters: In line with the international nature of AIS, several new chapters were founded, including those in China, Belgium and Netherlands, and Poland.
  Distinguished Member Award: The AIS Distinguished Member Award was established for distinguished AIS members who passed away during the previous calendar year and who were not previously a LEO awardee or an AIS Fellow.
• Website: The AIS website and eLibrary were improved, including a (temporary) move to an open source system.
• Budget: A modest contribution was made to the AIS reserves after some time of net losses. The presentation of the budget was reorganized to clearly show contribution and expenses per conference and per activity.

Claudia Loebbecke is senior editor of the Journal of Strategic Information Systems (JSIS), associate editor of The Information Society (TIS) and on the editorial board of the Information Systems Journal (ISJ), the Journal of Information Technology (JIT), the Journal of Media Management (JMM), and Communications of the AIS (CAIS).

Her research focus is on business models and management aspects of digital and creative goods and on the innovative use of new media, information, and telecommunication technologies covering aspects such as electronic business, knowledge management, and new organizational forms. She is the author of over 200 internationally peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers and contributed to the development of more than twenty in-depth case studies in eight different countries. In a 2010 research ranking (www.vvenkatesh.com/ISranking), she was among the top 25 for the top eight IS journals in the period 2005 to 2009.

Previously, she also worked for BIFOA (Germany), INSEAD (France), McKinsey & Co. (Germany), and Erasmus University. Her research appointments also included the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the University of New South Wales, INSEAD, CISR/Sloan School/MIT, Bentley University, London School of Economics, University of Paris-Dauphine, and LUISS University (Italy).

Professor Loebbecke received a Fulbright Scholarship (1986/87) and a DAAD Scholarship (1990/91). She is member of the European Academy of Sciences and of Beta Gamma Sigma.
